Calendar of Control
There is nothing more frustrating than working hard to control an invasive plant, only to find out you made the problem worse or were not effective in controlling the plant. Unfortunately there is no perfect solution for invasive plant control. Hand pulling, mowing, burning, herbicide and even goats can be effective if used properly, at the right time and on the right species. The Brown County Native Woodlands Project’s Non-Native Invasive Species Calendar of Control is an attempt to help landowners know when to treat certain invasive species and what herbicide treatment generally works. The calendar is no substitute for reading and following the herbicide label and it does not provide enough detail to mix herbicide or describe proper application techniques. Supplement the Calendar of Control with the label that comes with your herbicide and follow application instructions provided by the herbicide manufacturer and the application device you are using to apply herbicide. Wear all appropriate safety equipment and use herbicides responsibly. Good luck controlling invasive plants. Our native plants are depending on your help for their survival.
